There is one server. See below for specifications. The server is a Pentium III-based system that was built for me in 1999 by a local vendor in the Saratoga Springs NY area (Bob Tatar). It was state-of-the-art at the time, but is clearly superseded by now by much faster processors and greater standard RAM, as well as size of hard-drives available. It services requests to the Apache web server fine however. Almost no delay in response. On the other hand, there are relatively few hits to the server at any one time, so as the need grows, I will replace it with a much faster server and use the existing unit as a workstation.
There are currently 7 nodes. 2 nodes are thin client devices that use another workstation (see below) as the terminal services server. They can, but do not normally, access the other server. I can easily use the workstation myself while any number of others are accessing it through terminal services. There is not enough activity to degrade performance when other users access the workstation.
The other 5 nodes are stand-alone computers running either Linux Ubuntu or Windows XP Professional. They can run on their own or access the server or the server-workstation through remote means.Thin clients
