I have two primary work areas. I now concentrate on the first: software development using the Java language, Java-implemented APIs, libraries and frameworks. Details regarding this are available here.
The second area of work relates to healthcare information technology. I provide consulting to physicians' practices regarding the selection, acquisition and implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
I do software development work specific to medical service provider (e.g. physicians' practices) needs. An example of this is the patient interface for the eClinicalWorks EMR.
In addition in the same area of healthcare information technology I have been developing so-called web services for linking disparate information systems used by different healthcare entities, e.g. a primary care physician office which needs to exchange clinical data with a specialist office or with a hospital each of which has a different computer system for handling clinical data.
I have developed a prototype project for example that uses web services among other software techniques.
The project is a web-accessible service that permit patients to bid on otherwise idle medical imaging equipment, for example to have an MRI scan. Simple concept. The prototype software is complete, but the software and the project itself need further development.
In addition I offer more general types of business-related services: business planning and analyis (see an example of a business plan for a physicians' practice downloadable in text format here to offer its EMR/PM system to small, surrounding practices on an application service provider (ASP) basis), financial analysis, strategic advice, operational improvement services and tax advice.
I generally charge $100/hour for my work, but am flexible in regard to that. I also price on a project basis that shifts as many functions as possible to lower-cost collaborators, so the cost to a client can be considerably below $100/hour.
The website is a constantly-evolving. There is a variety of behind-the-scenes functions available on the server that delivers this website that illustrate web services and provide access to a sample implementation of the OpenEMR EMR system. I will connect a working version of the free and open-source (FOSS) PatientOS EMR/PM system, then possibly a working example of the eClinicalWorks system. Another FOSS system is OpenClinic. I plan to make a version of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VistA system available as well. VistA and OpenClinic are likewise FOSS.
